The summer heat is coming on fast and what is a better way to spend time outside with little ones than at a Splash Pad? As an Mom of littles I love how splash pads can allow us to stay cool and occupied but I don’t have to worry about someone jumping into the deep end and trying to keep track of more kids than I have hands.

I have found that there is always a splash pad within about 15 minutes in the OKC area. Some are really amazing and others are as my child would say, “boring”. I’m sharing below our top 5 favorite OKC Splash Pads that we (meaning me and my 3 children ages 7 and younger) believe are worth traveling too if you need a day adventure in the area.

When are OKC splash pads open?

Most of the splash pads within the OKC area are open from Memorial Day through the second weekend of September. But like last year the heat waves were lasting well into September and several were willing to stay open a few more weeks! Check out the parks facebook pages to get the most up to date info for the splash pads.

This is probably the top splash pad in the metro area. It’s huge and be warned moms, it stays busy! This Pirate Themed Splash Pad is fence enclosed and includes large slides, big buckets and more. I would say this park is definitely for older children like ages 5 plus. It does stay quite busy so make sure you are prepared to keep a close eye on your kids and realize that little ones can get pretty overwhelmed with all the big things to do.

Right next to the splash pad is an awesome playground with sets for children of all ages. It doesn’t have a lot of shade so keep that in mind.

Brittany’s Play Adventure is an All Accessibilities Park located at Wild Horse Park in Mustang. A large splash pad is connected to the amazing playground that will keep your kids entertained for hours. This is definitely a favorite for my younger aged children.

Thunder Fountain at Myriad Gardens is just one of the two water places there. This fountain is a favorite in our home as it is right next to the lovely children’s garden at Myriad. Access is free and there’s plenty of shade for parents to sit in.

If you have a zoo membership make sure to pack an extra set of clothes and towels during those summer months as your kids will definitely want to cool off in the delight splash fountain/creek they have. This is a highlight of summer zoo visits in our family!

This enclosed splash pad and playground is a great place to cool off in during those hot summer days! Lots of room and shaded tables makes this a great place to be at.

Splash Pad Packing List

I always seem to forget something when I go to the splash pad so having a quick packing list helps me to make sure we don’t arrive without the needed parts to keep ourselves happy and healthy.

• sunscreen
• change of clothes for each kid (include the underwear!)
• water bottles
• snacks
• towels (love these turkish towels as they are light and dry so fast!)
• this chair for me (especially as a nursing mama having this chair so I can always be in the shade is a must!)
• a fan for me and baby
