Manhattan, Brooklyn & NYC newborn lifestyle photographer
Welcoming a new little one into your home and life is such an exciting and overwhelming time. Wonder, love, feeling overwhelmed, and a thousand other emotions swirl around during this time. An in-home photography session is a wonderful way to stop time for a bit and capture all the things to be remembered in the years to come and passed down to the next generations.
My newborn sessions are a documentary style session to capture the wonder, emotion and connection of you, your family and your new little one. We let your little one take the lead and capture the intimate moments, itty bitty details and love of this time.
In this post I want to answer questions you might have and help you know what to expect from a newborn photography session with me.
What is included in your newborn lifestyle session package?
A pre-session phone chat, a session & style guide, 1-2 hr session time and an online gallery of digital images with print release (usually around 50+ photos). The amount of time is given to allow feeding and other things if needed for you and your little one so the time is not pressured. You can check out pricing here.
I also offer photo prints and other printed products if you desire.
Where does the session take place?
Sessions take place in your home – the safest and most comfortable place for your little one. I use natural light for my photography style so typically a session takes place in the morning or early afternoon.
My home is small, will it work?
Yes! A session does not take a lot of space – all we need is one natural light source. It’s amazing what all you can do with just one window. A session can take place even just using your bed or couch.
What type of pictures are taken?
Pictures captured include baby, family, each parent with baby, baby details, nursery etc. It can also be a great time to do a bath or some other daily routine you want remembered.
I DO NOT do posed or propped photos of the baby. I believe in capturing your baby in the essence and beauty of who they are.
You can check out past sessions that I have photographed on my blog.
What do we wear?
I provide a style guide to give you some ideas and suggestions for clothing that works best. I always recommend wearing things you can feel relaxed in since the session involves lots of snuggling and cuddling. Neutral colors often work best and I ask you to stay away from bright neons, tiny patterns and large graphics.
When do I reserve my session?
Contact me as soon as you want – the earlier the better, we can discuss whether you want a maternity session added to your package too. I pencil in your due date with contacting you close to that time to check in and see what’s happening.
Sessions often work best when done within the first 4 weeks after your baby arrives. Newborn sessions can be scheduled up until your little one is 3 months old. I often suggest within the 10-21 day mark just to give you time to feel settled in a bit more and relaxed.
Booking a session with Charis Elisabeth Photography requires a phone chat before reserving your spot and a $100 non-refundable retainer to book your session. The rest of the payment is required before or on the day of the session. Photos are delivered via an online gallery within 3-4 weeks after the session.
